We created Clafiya to improve how you pay access and receive health and wellness services and products through Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). This is especially important for people who spend their hard-earned money on out-of-pocket health expenses. It’s only fair for such people to live their best healthy lives without breaking the bank. It’s something that we at Clafiya work towards, from personal experience.
Why did we create Clafiya?
I moved to Nigeria with my family in the year 2000. It was my first time in Nigeria and my first introduction to our healthcare system. With two of my siblings living with chronic conditions, we found it difficult to access healthcare simply because we didn’t know how or where to access it. The referrals we got were often subpar. Eventually, my stay in Nigeria was cut short; after five years, we moved back to the States.
In 2016, I started visiting Nigeria as an adult and, realised that the same challenges my family and I experienced while accessing healthcare had stayed the same or gotten worse, even after ten years. I started to ask people around me questions like, “How can we increase access to primary healthcare in Africa?” And Clafiya was born.

In 2021, Clafiya’s journey to change how Nigerians access healthcare began. We began operations in Enugu offering primary healthcare services to people, families, and businesses. Not long after, we moved to Lagos.
With each case and its treatment plan, we learned more about the challenges Nigerians face in accessing affordable healthcare. We witnessed, firsthand, the struggles of countless individuals, who were burdened by exorbitant medical expenses, often resorting to drastic measures to cover their healthcare needs. It became quite clear to us that the escalating cost of healthcare in Nigeria was forcing people to make an unimaginable choice between their health and finances.
Fueled by this insight, we set out to design a solution to help Nigerians manage their health without straining their finances. And with that, our HSA was created.
As Nigeria’s first Health Savings Account (HSA) Administrator, our goal is simple – create a world where every Nigerian can access quality healthcare without financial constraints. With our HSAs, we’re changing how health and wellness expenses are managed, allowing people to save, earn interest, and access healthcare tailored to their specific needs.
We didn’t stop there. We took our commitment to offering access to high-quality healthcare a step further with our Care Clinic and Health and Wellness Hub. Our mission has always been, and remains, to provide accessible and affordable healthcare, with you – the individual, the family, the business – at the centre of it all.
Every day, we tirelessly work towards our overarching goal: creating a world where all Africans have access to quality, affordable primary healthcare, regardless of their socioeconomic status. We firmly believe that healthcare should not be a luxury but a basic human right.
